As he regularly likes to remind people, Episcopal Bishop Steven Charleston is a Choctaw Indian but I don't think that's why he's rocking this stole. Says
here that he recently held the position of "multicultural minister" for the Diocese of California so I think that's what's going on here.

Looks kind of like the sample page my printer spits out when I change the ink cartridge.
"Seems like nothin' ever comes to no good up on Choctaw Ridge," (with a nod to Bobby Gentry)
Someone should steal the stole.
It's quite pretty actually. I'd like to have it to put on my coffee table : )
Test pattern for Television Havana during sunspot activity.
I don't think there's such a thing as a "Diocese of California".
This is the multi-purpose "oh my gosh, the altar guild forgot to change the paraments on the altar and now everything is out of sync." I will put on my multi-purpose stole so the members will not notice the women's mistake.
And that's without even mentioning the solecism of wearing a stole over choir vestments!
Some Anglican bishops should get a sense of dress code and colour co-ordination. A stole is a eucharistic vestment, but I gather he's using it in a non-sacramental way. Dare I say it, VERY PROTESTANT!
Arden Forrester, you may be right... given the Protestant emphasis on "being Saved", it does look like he's making a baseball umpire's sign for "Safe!". That, I sujppose, would be the Protestasnt equivalent of 'Ego te absolvo'...
this stole is created with a quilting technique called Seminole Piecing... very intricate. The shading is intentional. The design very complex. I imagine the Bishop may have sought it out because of its ties to Native American art, even if not made by a native American.
